How long do you practice?

It all depends; sometimes when we’re on the road, a concert may count as my practice time. Other times I may practice an hour in a hotel room or the bus, but when we’re at home and things are caught up, I will practice 4 to 6 hours.

What is your favorite song to play?

I really don’t have a favorite song; it all depends on my mood that day. Some days I enjoy the hymns, some days the big band and other days I enjoy the quiet ballads.

Who is your favorite trumpet player?

I listen to lots of different trumpet players; I listen to certain players for certain techniques or styles. But if I have to pick, one of my favorites would definitely be Louis Armstrong.

How do you keep spiritually refreshed on the road?

Keeping up with our own quiet times and daily prayer times together is what we do on the road. When we are home we are all active in our churches, small groups, and one on one time with our accountability partners.

Is Chiz your real name?

Chiz is a nickname in my family that has been passed down for three generations. My full name is Charles Rider III.
