Those who know me well, know that Valentine’s Day is my least favorite day of the year!! What a horrible holiday. For a lot of people, it is a day that reminds them to treat their spouse special for the day. I am not the perfect husband in any kind of way, but I DO NOT need a single day out of the year to remind me how to treat my wife. Kelli gets the same from me every day. It doesn’t matter if it’s February 14th or any other day of the year, she gets all my love and affection 365 days a year!!
It amazes me how we as humans need reminded of things. Think about it…. if it wasn’t for technology, we would miss friends’ birthdays, Dr. appointments, meetings and other important things in our lives. The world is constantly moving at a fast pace, and it is so hard to keep up sometimes. We need those digital calendars to keep us in line, focused and on schedule. And sadly enough, some people need holidays to remind them of other things, like treating their spouse special, or remembering Veterans, or remembering people who sacrificed their lives for our freedoms, and for some people, they even need reminded of Christ’s birth and crucifixion from a holiday on a calendar.
Where am I going with all of this……? We need the reminders. We have gotten to the point in this world where we need the technology. We need all these things to keep us doing the right things and remembering important things. But you know what…. I am REALLY thankful that’s not how Christ works. He doesn’t need me to pray to remind Him of me, He doesn’t need an iPhone to remind Him to love me or answer a prayer. Christ doesn’t need a single thing to remind Him that He loves us all. One difference between us right now and the people in the Bible is the tech that we have now, but the difference between Christ right now and Christ during biblical times……nothing!!
Hebrews 13:8 “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever”
That is AWESOME!!! What that means and what we can 100% rely on, is that Jesus Christ doesn’t need reminders about you and me. He doesn’t need a calendar; He doesn’t need an app or even a post-it note to remember us and guess what else…He doesn’t need a horrible holiday centered around love to remind Him that He loves us. How cool is that!!
